Initially all administration and fund distribution for KidSport
programs came out of Vancouver. In 2001 the Greater Vernon KidSport Fund
was created by Chris Nelson, with the initiative to raise funds locally,
with all monies going to the children in need in the Greater Vernon area.
While the majority of the applicants are single parent
families, we have the Greater Vernon KidSport Fund has seen an increasing
number of applicants whose families main economic provider had been laid
off.
Since 2001 the Greater Vernon KidSport Fund has distributed
more than $74,000 to kids within the local community. Each year more than
100 Greater Vernon children have a chance to participate in sport because
of support from the KidSport Fund.
